UBU Get Green

As European Green Capital 2015, sustainability is a huge part of life in Bristol and UBU Get Green is a fun and easy way for University of Bristol students to get involved and make a real difference.

UBU Get Green has four strands: Learn, Act, Engage, and Create. These engage students from all courses and backgrounds to create a culture of sustainability at University of Bristol.

The project empowers University of Bristol students to change how and what they learn in their formal and informal curriculum, through our comprehensive Education for Sustainable Development strategy.

Students change how they act through competitions and campaigns, including Student Switch Off and Bristol Big Give. In 2014, Bristol students diverted over 88 tonnes of reusable items with the Bristol Big Give which has an estimated value of over £180,000 for local and national charities. UBU Get Green has ambitious energy and waste targets for 2014/15 – aiming to achieve a 10% energy reduction in halls and recycling rates of 65%.

Engage Café, the student sustainability network, and the core volunteer team provide opportunities for students to engage with like-minded students, alumni and professionals and drive the direction of the project.

UBU Get Green funds and supports students to create change with their own ideas and campaigns through the Create Fund.
