With 6000 students in the area in private accommodation and an increase in bills being all inclusive, GreenPad responds to the fact that students in these living situations have little reason to be mindful of energy usage, as it makes no difference to their bills.
GreenPad will help tenants and landlords move to a system where billing can be carried out on a property by property basis, making housing more sustainable while students feel the financial benefit.
In the first instance, GreenPad will work with student- assessed properties, installing energy monitoring systems to keep tenants updated with regular bulletins on their household’s energy usage, and feedback on how to improve performance.
This will result in a Green Accommodation Service – a student led letting agency driving positive sustainability improvements in the private rental sector, only promoting environmentally-positive properties.
GreenPad empowers students to work with landlords to improve the environmental credentials of housing stock in the Staffordshire area, while giving a financial reward to students for cutting down on energy usage. Working with 60 properties in the first instance, GreenPad will use Students’ Green Fund to expand to creating a student-led letting agency, promoting solely effecient properties and reflecting students’ desire for sustainability.
